Hartill Picnic Report
Chewelah, Washington

Aug 15, 2005.

The 44th Hartill/Harthill family picnic gathered at the Chewelah City Park on the 2nd Sunday in August, which was Aug 14, 2005 with 25 in attendance. This was a very small increase from the last picnic, held in 2003.

Business meeting called to order at 1:00 p.m.

Maggie reported there was $248.22 in the treasury up to May 31, 2003. It has earned no interest since that time due to 911.

M/S/C that we donate $200.00 to the Chewelah Pioneer Cemetery this year, leaving $48.22 balance before we add to it from this year's donations and white elephant auction. If ever anyone feels moved to make a donation, please send it to Maggie.

M/S/C after very little discussion, to continue to have our annual picnics, trying to encourage the younger family members to attend. It is a fact, if they do not start to get involved, the picnics will soon stop for lack of people. Some say I do not know anyone, and I say, You will never know each other unless you come and meet each other.

After discussion it was decided unanimously to not continue with the huge, expensive and unproductive snail mailing as has been done in the past. An e-mail will be sent to all family members who provide her with an e-mail address. Those who are e-mailed in turn will spread the word to their families.

It was decided to send out e-mail reminders, previous to the annual picnics. The first one will be sometime in May, then another in June or mid July and the last one the week before the picnic. Also she was asked to continue the prayer requests and try to collect more e-mail addresses.

Maggie agreed to handle the above responsibilities plus mail out snail mail as needed.

If you know of someone who needs contacted by either of our contact methods and you are not sure we have their address on our contact list, please send all information to Maggie. This includes both snail mail and e-mail. Each person is asked to assist us in keeping these lists up to date.

Announcements: It was discovered we must reserve a picnic area from now on. Carolyn Hartill and Bob Holford had it reserved and someone moved our sign the night before. We were later informed that we needed to contact George Ebert at the City of Chewelah to handle this matter in the future. Fortunately the new location we great and caused no problems.

Note: The date of next year's picnic is still to be the 2nd Sunday in August unless something causes us to have to change it, and notice will be sent out if that happens.

The picnics originally were held at Manito Park in Spokane on the 1st Sunday of August. In 1984, the group decided to move the picnics location to Chewelah, in hopes of better attendance by those living there. After moving to Chewelah, in 1993 it was decided to change to the 2nd Sunday for the 1994 picnic, because there were too many other reunions on the first week, making it very crowded, and no tables available for all. It varies, but by and large this has worked well and we plan to keep it the 2nd Sunday of August each year.

This year, following the picnic, we had the pleasure of Matt Morris and Tim Miller sharing the auctioneer responsibilities and selling all of the White Elephants.

Prayers are especially needed for:
--- Bud Hartill - His health has been failing the last year, pray for improvement and help with decisions.
--- Jane Floyd - Her Lupus flared up just before the picnic, we pray this spell is not long lasting.
--- Mary Gunn - Her health is not good this year, pray for improvement.
--- Marge Seefeldt - back surgery, pray for a speedy and good recovery.
All of the above transactions have been done as of Aug 15, 2005.

Respectfully Submitted,
