Dear Harthill/Hartill family,

Time got away from me this year. I took an unexpected trip for a month, which did not allow me to take care of this. I hope you all realized it was the same date as we usually have it. Second Sunday of August. You might find repetition in case some family member is reading it for the first time, keep that in mind, please.

The 42nd Hartill/Harthill family picnic is scheduled to be at the Chewelah City Park on the 2nd Sunday in August, which is Aug 11, 2002 at 1:00 PM. Hopefully you will plan to come. Invite anyone in your family, whose address I do not have. Each year many letters come back to me, so please keep me updated on address changes, snail and e-mail.

It will be potluck as usual. Check out the recipes in the Hartill Cookbook. Each family is asked to bring 2 items of food, (3 would be better for variety) one being a hot dish. Please bring your own Silverware, Plates & Beverages, and if you want a Tablecloth and folding chairs.

Remember your wrapped WHITE ELEPHANT for the AUCTION. The purpose of this is to have an expense fund for mailing expenses and door prize, now a charity project… plus it's just plain fun. I did not line up an auctioneer. I pray one simply materializes.

We continue to collect recipes for a supplement to our cookbook ~ When ample recipes come in to warrant it, we'll print it. Send recipes either to me or to Joann Jones. You could bring them to the picnic in August also. Joann's address: (2122 Ferry St SW, Albany OR 97321-3918)

A thought just occurred to me, and not sure what it would create for work. Would a page on the web be of interest to anyone? For family info and maybe even recipes. I could create it when I get that extra couple of years of time I keep looking for. I will think more on this idea, and welcome hints and ideas.

I am in the process of reading the Chewelah Pioneer Cemetery, I have finished the southeast and south west sections. I am so pleased to see how they have fixed up and are maintaining the cemetery now. You can check my other pages and see that I have completed the Chewelah Memorial and St Mary Catholic cemeteries, just have the Pioneer to finish in Chewelah. If anyone knows of a cemetery that I have not completed, please contact me with the information so I can take care of it.

When you arrive watch for the big "Hartill Picnic" sign someplace in the Chewelah Park. As may of you know, we lost Percy Hartill quite recently. He usually places the Hartill Picnic sign in the park. Carolyn said she and Bob Holford would see that it was taken care of.

2001 Picnic: Motion was made by Fay Hartill to send $200.00 to the Chewelah Pioneer Cemetery Association. S/C We'll vote again this year on what sort of project we should adopt, if any. Bring your ideas to the picnic in August. The weather was 109° last year, which was unusual and difficult for some. We hope it is better this year.
