This cemetery is one of the cemeteries on the northern side of the group
of cemeteries in Roslyn WA. To reach it drive west through Roslyn on Pennsylvania
Ave. Continue hanging left till you reach Memorial Road, where you turn
left or south. You will have to either drive all the way around the different
cemeteries or catch the first road up the hill to your right. I never
did find it coming in. The road up past the Old City Cemetery will come
out on the upper road, then left.
St Barbara Cemetery is a Slavic Lodge cemetery. Some call it Santa
Barbara and others say Saint Barbara.
I really did not keep good track of the rows, so I will only label
them when I am sure. Row 6 was near the Starkovich #1 cemetery, on the
east side of St Barbara. This row was difficult to tell which cemetery
it should be in when I walked it. Later I found information which said
it was part of St Barbara. The rows on this side were separated from
the adult burials because it was the children's area when the cemetery
first was started. The adults were buried on the opposite side of the
cemetery, with this huge gap in the middle with no burials. I did find
others buried on this side besides children, so apparently that is not
practiced anymore.
The opposite or west side of Santa Barbara cemetery abuts to the small,
abandoned Sokol Lodge Cemetery. See
map
Many of the markers were written in their native language, of which
I cannot read, I did my best to get the dates from them. I do have photos
of many, so if someone wants a copy, I will gladly share. Sometimes
they are difficult to decipher even then.
I surveyed this cemetery on Aug 20, 2001, using pencil and pad, plus
my digital camera. I will share photos if I have a good photo of the
stone you want. For more information on Roslyn.
