This cemetery can be reached on the upper road. It is on the south side of the road next to Cacciatori D'Africa Cemetery on the east and the abandoned Croatian burial spot on the west. To the north of it and across the road is the Santa Barbara Cemetery. see map

The Serbian Cemetery originated in 1902 and was owned by the SNF Lodge #079 Vjecnaja Pamjat. I do not know what the last two words mean. This cemetery is probably considered abandoned. Some say it is owned by the city of Roslyn, while the city of Roslyn says it is not.

There are people who get together at least once a year and clean it out in the spring. All I can find out is that it once was an active cemetery and now since the lodge has dissolved there is no one to care for it. The phone number I have listed is a contact who, if he cannot give you help, might lead you to some one who can.

I had difficulty trying to read all of the stones. Fortunately I was able to share my photos with someone who knew the language. About 18 of the stones were in the native language of the deceased person, which was not always the same language as another stone. My niece, Natasha Seefeldt, was so kind to translate these for me. Natasha can read Russian and a few other languages. Some were difficult even for her to read, so every one may not be totally accurate. I found this and the Slovak cemetery to be the hardest cemeteries to read. Not only because of the language but some were just difficult to see from wear.

I have digital photos of most of the headstones. Some are almost impossible to decipher either from age or language as I stated above. I will accept corrections from anyone who has proof and will share any of the photos if you ask me to.

I surveyed this cemetery on Aug 19, 2001, using pencil and pad, plus my digital camera. For more information on Roslyn.
