From Murray driving west on Prichard Creek Rd, turn south/left onto Walt Almquist Ave and continue across the highway for about 1/2 mile. The, cemetery will be on the left/east side of Walt Almquist Ave.

GAR Murray Cemetery sign says "This pioneer cemetery is on National Resource Land, and used only by the town of Murray. It began with the burial of a Union Veteran on Oct 30, 1887." Because of this someone has placed a sign calling it a GAR cemetery. It does not contain many GAR burials, but rather the whole community uses it.

I contacted several people who have taken care of this cemetery in the past or at present and it really has never had a name other than the Murray Cemetery. It is being maintained by a group of volunteers. At present one can contact Rosie & Judy Rosalez, who head up the group and Judy has the sexton files.

I found the cemetery in good condition. It has more work to be done, but they are really trying to get it back as good as they can. A few new markers have been placed over those which had nothing, but it is slow, and there are so many that have no marker. Old records do not tell them all they would like to know, due to poor record keeping, so that requires much research.

If anyone knows information about one of these unidentified listings or more information for one of those which are not complete, please contact me. I would be very happy to correct them or add to.

There is a board inside the cemetery with a map, showing where people are buried. I have included the names which I found no stone for and identified them with an * asterisk.

I walked and surveyed this cemetery on Aug 22, 2005 using a digital camera. I have photos of all the existing and legible stones.
