To reach this cemetery, take Hwy 12 west out of Orofino for about 10
miles and turn left or north into Pierce. Driving north on Main Street
(Hwy 11) in Pierce, turn left onto Moscrip Drive. Cemetery is across street
from a church after about 3 blocks.
This cemetery is still maintained as the burial grounds, which contained
all of the Chinese who died in Pierce many years ago. It is maintained
even though many of the bodies have been removed and returned to their
homeland or some other cemetery. There are other burials which remain,
some women and children, who were not removed but have no identifying
markers.
One can see many of the grave openings, where
they dug them up and left the hole exposed. Chinese Artifacts, broken
tools and rotting cabins are still found in the nearby hills.
I have never found a list of the names of those buried here.
I visited this site on Jul 01, 2007.
